Harness Racing Small of Fame
INTRODUCING THE FIRST INDUCTEE TO THE NEW “HARNESS RACING SMALL OF FAME”…
Her name is Mom Is Beautiful, and she is a seven-year-old trotting mare who races regularly at Northville Downs in Michigan. What is special about Mom is that she once pulled an Amish buggy, plus had a foal. You can view the video at the bottom of this page. But in the meantime we want to tell you about this new concept.
The Harness Racing Small of Fame is a long overdue organizational concept that has been created to include everyone involved in the wonderful sport of Standardbred Harness Racing from the beginning of time until who knows when. It is a group that is all-inclusive and accepts everyone and excludes no one who has been involved in Harness Racing, even if in a small way.
The term small is simply a play on words and is not to insinuate that anyone is too unimportant to belong. Harness racing has had a long history, which includes folks of the wealthy, the poor, the blue bloods, the peasants, and all those in-between. The same goes for our equine athletes. Horses, such as Rambling Willie, did not know he was not of superior bloodlines.
To belong to this group, one can simply share a person or horse who participated in our sport even if their love for the sport seemed insignificant. One person with a pitchfork, or who worked hard to support a cheap claimer is welcomed – including the cheap claimer. Everyone who has contributed to our sport is welcome. Those living or departed are welcome.
We are building a harness racing family society and want you, your child, grand-pappy, claimer, favorite horse, etc. to be a part of it. Let’s make history together.
FORMER AMISH BUGGY HORSE TROTS TO VICTORY AT NORTHVILLE AFTER HAVING GIVEN BIRTH TO A FOAL…
MOM IS BEAUTIFUL, post position 4, was not a mom when registered with that name, but today she is a hard-working, hard-racing mom, having hit the board 8 out of her 11 lifetime starts, averaging over $1000. per start. This seven-year-old trotting mare is a mother, who once pulled (pulled so hard they thought she would be better off racing) an Amish buggy, but God had another plan for her after motherhood. She traded maternity and an Amish buggy for the bright lights and fame that accompany the sport of Standardbred racing. I am unsure of her specific history, but according to USTA records she was bred by J&T Silva Stables in 2013, but has been primarily campaigned by the owner Chester Miller who resides in Simpsonville, KY. Mr. Miller’s brother, the extremely proficient Michigan horseman, Laverne Miller, has been her trainer and driver since Mr. Miller purchased Mom earlier this year. Sired by $3million winner, Donato Hanover, Mom’s mom is the $100,000. winner Social Butterfly.
Sadly, Mom is Beautiful died when a barn fire consumed three horses at a Michigan training center on 02/16/2021. She was beautiful.
