Harness racing is a diamond in the rough. Lets creatively transform the sport into a fascinating and exciting sport.
Enticing new fans is difficult because most people do not know anything about harness racing. Most people have been introduced to other sports from childhood through school sports programs, but harness racing is unconnected to them. Those of us who have, or are currently, involved in harness racing understand the sport and identify with the performers. Many enthusiasts were indoctrinated by family or were introduced by accident through a friend. Harness racing is a diamond in the rough.
Harness racing seems boring to folks who are unfamiliar with the sport. We participants realize there is much more to racing than just the race, just like there is more to football than the long, drawn-out time it takes to play the game. Folks tolerate the time between plays during a football game because that lag time is usually spent by announcers commenting on the game, or it gives the viewer time to make a sandwich or go to the bathroom.
In harness racing, six minutes (three races) of so-called action takes an hour with lag time. That is unacceptable.
